Skybox Lamp

An ambient table lamp inspired by the colors and slow movement of clouds before sunset. Hand built from welded sheet metal, acrylic, microcontroller, and LEDs.

The Skybox lamp is based on a custom 3D Perlin noise field running on a small microcontroller. By moving through the Z-axis of the noise field the program is able to create a smooth constantly evolving pattern on the XY plane, which is displayed on an 8x32 grid of RGB LEDs.

Featured in Sight Unseen Saturday Selects as part of the annual lighting show at Head Hi coffee shop and bookstore, and displayed during NYC design week 2021 at the Radiator show.
