Nebula

Nebula is a kinetic sculpture installation for AZ88, a restaurant in Arizona. I was commissioned by Untitled Studio to create a custom mechanical and electronic system that would allow for a series of motorized nodes to move in a synchronized pattern.

The project included 30 motorized nodes all connected via RS485. I designed and fabricated custom hardware including laser-cut aluminum motor brackets, bearing assembly, and mirrored stainless steel rods. I also created a custom PCB based on the rp2040 chip that allowed for RS485 communication and shared data between each node and a computer running a custom Electron app with a UI for controlling and debugging the system.
